Chuka strikes again

Chuka strikes again. His loyalty to JC is like Brutus to Rome’s JC. He calls for ‘clear red water’ between Labour and May (presumably he uses the word ‘red’ to appear radical. Reflecting the view of 86% of the CBI he seeks to remain within the deadly embrace of the Bosses’ Club which would thwart any attempt at renationalisation and protects the practice of paying starvation wages to workers from oversees. He should test his ‘broad consensus’ with the impoverished Greek working class whose leadership traded their well-being for continuing EU imprisonment.

Blairite shocktroops hound Corbyn

                           John (ex)Spellar                         Frankie (hitman) Field

The Blairite shocktroops Frank Field and John Spellar (super scab Eric Hammond’s protégé) and a motley assortment of discredited zombies are storming the media to attack JC’s failure to condemn Maduro using a 3-year-old meeting with Chavez as ‘proof’ that he supports Maduro’s actions. (It’s a pity they don’t dislay such energy in fighting austerity and cuts!) They forget to mention the role of MUD, a coalition of right wing organisations, who are doing the bidding of Trump and the US state department. They are funding and organising fascist groups to add to the turmoil arising from the economic chaos. The Blairites, hysterically supported by the usual demons of the media, grotesquely proclaim that it is yet another failure of socialism. The opposite is true; the crisis arises from the FAILURE by Chavez and his successor to carry through a full-blooded socialist programme. To seek to accommodate the big corporations, as Maduro has done,  and to leave the banks and other key levers of power in the hands of the capitalists is to allow them the means and the time to organise against any ‘left’ government which threatens their interests.  The parallels with Chile and the military coup in 1973 are stark. JC and the Labour Movement need to draw the appropriate lessons.

MPA calls on Jeremy to bring ancillary workers back into fully publicly owned NHS

MERSEYSIDE PENSIONERS’ ASSOCIATION (MPA)

Media Release – 10 August 2017

The Merseyside Pensioners Association continues to offer full support the Royal Hospital ancillary workers in dispute with the brutal employer ISS, and we support Unite the Union’s commitment to supporting and organising those workers.

We call for all cleaning and other ancillary services in the NHS to be taken back in-house as an integral part of a fully publicly owned NHS and we call on Jeremy Corbyn to include this pledge in his promise to take the NHS back into public ownership.

Which Labour Party?

The question has been posed again: why doesn’t the Socialist Party dissolve and join Labour? That question could be posed to the Co-Op Party, and to the other 17 organisations currently part of the Labour Party, including the neo-liberal right wing Progress. The Socialist Party carries the banner for a clear socialist alternative to capitalism for which we have campaigned for decades and will continue to do so, outside or inside the Labour Party. There is no reason at all why SP members should not be part of Labour. The question is: which Labour Party? The one of the 600,000 Corbyn supporters, or the party machine which is still controlled by McNicol and the rest of the Blairites, including 170 crypto-Tory/Libdems in the PLP. Until that question is resolved turmoil and treachery will dominate JC’s tenure as leader.

High tech: Utopia or Dystopia

Silicon Valley – the road to Armageddon or Utopia? The future is violent revolt or harmonious use of AI depending on who you speak to as revealed by the BBC’s ‘Silicon Valley’. AI can be used to diagnose disease from a CT scan in a fraction of a second. Uber can drive impoverished taxi drivers to suicide. Airbnb claim to help people earn money while they travel abroad, with catastrophic effects on working class rents in Barcelona. The Industrial Revolution was nothing compared to what is coming, says one tech genius whose software could replace doctors. One idealistic nerd predicts a life of leisure for the masses who will be paid a decent income for not working while new technology will create the necessary wealth to fund it. The key question is the ownership of these wonders. It is certain that Dystopia await us if they remain in private hands. Ultimately on the basis of capitalism the rule of the market will apply to AI: deliver the highest rewards to shareholders, and if that means dispensing with millions of workers’ labour then so be it. This programme provided further evidence that Socialism cannot be postponed much longer.
