A brilliant verdict that the Hillsborough victims were unlawfully killed and completely exonerates the fans from any responsibility for the catastrophe. Congratulations are due to the families of the 96 for their unstinting and courageous campaign to secure justice. This verdict confirms our views held for 27 years that:
There was a catastrophic failure of those responsible for crowd safety.
The victims and their families were subject to a sustained campaign of lies and vilification by the media, the police and other agencies of the state.
The West Yorkshire police played a particularly pernicious role in falsifying police accounts of events as they did in the miners’ strike.
A debt of honour is owed to the families for exposing the web of lies and distortion which was used to defend those responsible for the catastrophe, who should now be brought to book.
Barack Obama spills the beans. He sees the EU as a neo-liberal instrument of American foreign policy, with TTIP as capitalism’s golden goose.
Blair was crazy Bush’s poodle. Now Cameron is Obama’s poodle. Time for us to slash the poodle’s leash and vote to leave the rich man’s club.
It’s not too late for Jeremy to face down his right wing blackmailers and join us in the campaign for exit.
Next Monday 25 April in association with the Echo a BBC Radio Merseyside debate will take place – it will be broadcast live from JUST AFTER NOON. The only anti-austerity candidate standing for Liverpool’s mayor ROGER BANNISTER will go head-to-head with Mayor Anderson and the other candidates – none of whom are calling on councillors to vote against cuts.
As we anticipated Anderson is getting blanket coverage in the media with TUSC being sidelined. This is a chance to redress the balance.

The world holds its breath!
The royal family is seriously considering making a dramatic intervention in the referendum debate with an announcement that it supports Britain remaining inside the European Union.
Outside ‘experts’ have advised the royals that the intervention would need to be presented by a figure with impeccable European credentials, a strong affinity with the continent and the character to speak out, the family has decided that the move should be fronted by Prince Philip (this is not meant to be a joke!).
One insider said that Big Phil has been hugely impressed by the way the EU stepped in, not just once but several times, to save – yes SAVE – Greece, “He admires what Tsipras and Varoufakis achieved – in fact he told friends he sees something of his younger self in the charismatic, motorbike-riding, eye-for-the-ladies Varoufakis. Mind you,” added the source, “he also thinks the Greeks would never have got into this mess if the colonels had still been in power.” That’s more like the celebrated dictator-loving scrounger that we know.
It’s yet another reason for voting to get out of this haven for the fat cats and to work for a socialist Europe.
TRADE UNIONIST AND SOCIALIST COALITION (TUSC) NEWS RELEASE
1 APRIL 2016
ROGER BANNISTER FOR LIVERPOOL’S MAYOR
We are launching our No Cuts Challenge with TUSC prospective mayoral candidate
Tuesday 5th April
The meeting is in the Casa, 29 Hope Street, L1 9BQ at 7.30.
Over a third of a billion pounds has been cut from Liverpool’s budget since 2010 with more to follow. The cuts have affected the most vulnerable people in the city the most but the majority of people are feeling its affects in some way.
Only TUSC is standing a candidate who says the cuts are ideologically driven with the aim of destroying our social system and that we must make a stand and refuse to implement them.
Come and join the debate with Roger on how a campaign can be built to stop the cuts.
Roger can be contacted on 07954376096 – firstname.lastname@example.org
