The unreal world of Anderson and Heseltine

Two quotes from Sunday’s Observer

“As mayor or council boss, leading a Manchester or Liverpool is a bigger job than half the cabinet. As a stepping stone to high office, what would be better than running one of our great cities?” Michael Heseltine.

It’s obvious what Heseltine is whispering in the mayor’s ear.

‘Whether you’re talking about tackling growth or deprivation, we know better how to direct money within the city region than some Whitehall mandarin.’ Joe Anderson

The mayor excels himself in double-speak here when he talks about ‘tackling deprivation’.

  1. So by tackling deprivation he is obviously talking about closing vital services (sure starts, nurseries, libraries) and decimating already impoverished communities while the city centre flourishes and looks nice for his drive into work? Nice one Joe 😉
